The Ovo Energy Tour of Britain comes to Barrow on Friday 7 th September when stage 6 of the 2018 event heads out from Barrow and finishes on Whinlatter Pass.
The event will attract visitors to the town, who will attend the rider presentations at Barrow Town Hall in the morning and watch the racers cycle around the town, as they take part in a 10km roll-out prior to the official stage start on Rampside Road.
Following the roll-out, the cyclists will head off to Ulverston and through the Lakes to their final destination on Whinlatter Pass which means visitors to Barrow will not be able to see the full stage or the drama of a hill-top finish… unless they come along to the Barrow BID sponsored Fanzone.
The Tour of Britain Fanzone will be located at the bottom of Dalton Road between Abbey Road and High Street. The area offers a great opportunity to watch the cyclists ride past on their roll-out and will also host a large outdoor screen for individuals to watch the entire stage live on ITV4.
Alcohol will be permitted in the Fanzone and Barrow BID will be working with local pubs to ensure that individuals can enjoy the day in a safe environment. The Fanzone will also host a series of activities by local companies including; DW Fitness and Life Leisure.
Colin Garnett – BID Manager said, “Becoming a host town for the Tour of Britain is fantastic and we didn’t want to see the opportunity wasted. Barrow town centre has a lot to offer visitors and we felt that a Fanzone would encourage cycling enthusiasts to stay longer, watch the stage and enjoy the hospitality of Barrow’s town centre businesses.”
