The tour of Britain visits Barrow on Friday 7th September when Barrow in Furness hosts the start of stage 6, which sees some of the world’s elite cyclists tackle 170km of Cumbrian roads, finishing with an uphill finish at Whinlatter.
Barrow BID were one of several partners who campaigned to get the Tour of Britain to Barrow and we are thrilled to host the event in our town.
Colin Garnett, BID Manager said, “The Tour of Britain is the biggest cycling race in the UK and for Barrow to be chosen as a host venue is an honour. Barrow in Furness has so much to offer visitors, with our beautiful coastline, varied natural habitats, ancient history, engineering excellence and friendly people. 2018 will be seen as a transitional period for our town centre, but the Tour of Britain and other events and initiatives can really put Barrow on the map and be the catalyst for renewed optimism in the town.
I hope Barrow makes the Tour of Britain feel welcome and the local businesses and residents go out of their way to support the event.”
Barrow BID will be launching a partnership website called www.visitbarrow.org.uk to promote the Tour of Britain and inform local residents and visitors where the best place is to see the riders, watch the tour and enjoy the day. Follow Visit Barrow on Facebook at: www.facebook.com/visitbarrow
