Following two year’s under the guise of the Classic & Vintage Car & Bike Show, the Barrow Festival of Transport returned to Barrow town centre on Saturday 20th July 2019. The event attracted over 200 vehicle registrations, however, an early morning downpour saw over 40 vehicle owners choose not to attend the event. This still meant over 150 vehicles lined the streets of Barrow’s town centre, a huge increase on the past 2 years.
The event saw motor cars, buses, steam tractors and camper vans located in Dalton Rd, Scooters located at the end of Cavendish St, Motorcycles on Portland Walk and Emergency and Commercial vehicles on the town square. There were also a number of attractions for all ages, including; a ride-on train, funfair rides, trampolines, a kid zone, live music and an open-top bus.
The sun eventually came out just before lunch and the Barrow public came out in force to attend the event. Barrow BID Manager, Colin Garnett said, “It was great to see so many people in the town centre. We were a bit nervous when we were setting up in the rain this morning, but the sun is out and it’s really nice to see so many local people come into the town centre to see the range of vehicles on display.”
The event is funded and supported by Barrow BID, but for 2019, the event has been organised by the Festival of Transport Committee. The committee is made up of local transport enthusiasts and business managers from Barrow’s town centre who have come together to dedicate their time and expertise to making the event bigger and better each year. Paul Hodgson, committee chairman said, “Last year the event was organised solely by the BID Manager and it had become too much for one individual. By forming a committee, we have been able to get involved and take the event to the next level. We look forward to bringing the event back to Barrow town centre in 2020.”
In 2020 the Barrow Festival of Transport will be returning to Barrow’s town centre on Saturday 11th July.
