Barrow Pub Walk

the Heritage of a Proud Northern Drinking Town

Like most towns, the public house in Barrow has suffered significant decline in numbers with many disappearing over the past 10 years. Before 1869 there was a distinction between a ‘Beer House’ which could only sell beer and a ‘Public House’ which was licenced to sell all types of alcohol.

This leaflet provides a walking guide around many of the drinking establishments of Barrow. Many are now closed with some converted to contractor accommodation and some have disappeared entirely.

The leaflet includes information on 17 town centre pubs, including; the infamous Gaza Strip, The Hotel Majestic, The Albion, The Britannia, Greengate St Club, Last Orders, The Blue Lamp, The Peacock, The Brewery, The Robin Hood, The Theatre Bar, The Barrow Arms, Cross Keys, Steelworks, Crystal Palace, Old Bank and the Devonshire.
